October 2023, Jon's Journal

October has arrived with its cooler mornings and the evenings are beginning to draw in.

We will soon be changing the planting within the Court Garden to provide some winter colour and plant spring bulbs. Dare I say it we will soon be dusting off the Christmas decorations too and the festive stock is now starting to catch my eye in the shop.

We are often quieter before half-term giving a chance for some peaceful time in the garden and for the team to get stuck into some project work. If you visit us over the next two weeks you may see or hear work being undertaken to fit a new array of solar panels to the visitor centre roof. A further investment to add to our existing arrays, this will enable us to be more sustainable going forward. Some of the electricity produced helps us power the café where we will soon see the return of Sunday Roasts from this Sunday 8th October and in November we will have Fish and Chip Fridays before our festive menu in December.

Volunteers have always been an important part of our team at Trebah. To date most of our volunteer team have been involved with the garden or events, but we’re now looking to expand our team by recruiting volunteers for new roles to support visitor and community engagement, maintenance, the plant centre and the garden. If you’re interested or know someone who might be we are holding a Volunteer Open Day on 23 November, click here to find out more.

Finally just a reminder that the AGM is coming up on Saturday 14 October, we’ve got a few places left if you’d like to attend. Please get in touch here to book your place.

With best wishes, Jon
