November 2023, Jon's Journal

With autumn turning towards winter the named storms start arriving, the piles of leaves start growing and you never know what will wash up on the beach.

Within the last ten days as I write we’ve had a suspected landmine on the beach (luckily it wasn’t) and a large number of Portuguese Man-o-War jellyfish amongst other things. This time of year is not always the easiest to work outdoors so thanks must go to the garden and maintenance teams for continuing to work hard in all weathers to keep Trebah looking smart.

With the change in seasons comes a change in closing times. From 1st November last entry into the garden will be 3.30pm and we will be closing the garden and shops at 4.30pm. We’ll also be closing the conservatory shop at the end of November so until then there is 25% off bulbs and house plants.

When and how to mention Christmas or to bring out the festive playlist is often a challenging conversation in many households and the same can be true in the workplace. Trebah is no exception. After much deliberation the team have started to dust off the baubles and think about roast turkey. Christmas workshops are going in the diary and there are more festive products in the shop by the day. The Santa hats will stay in the cupboard for now, but keep an eye on the website for an update of what’s coming up.

Thanks to everyone who attended the AGM and John Lanyon’s talk that followed last month, it was good to meet some of you on the day. Minutes will soon be on the website if they are not already. Following last months newsletter please can I just post a reminder of the Volunteer Open Day on 23rd November. If you or someone you know might be interested in joining the team, please click here.

Finally, this month I’m pleased to let you know that we will welcome a new face to the Trebah management team this month. Catherine Croft joins us as Food and Beverage Manager on Saturday 4th November. She joins us having run the Pandora Inn for many years.

Thanks, as ever, for your ongoing support as members. I hope we can welcome you to Trebah again soon.

Best wishes, Jon
