Bonsai Bonanza!

BONSAI IS BACK at Trebah

The beautiful art of bonsai will be on display at Trebah over the weekend of the 18 and 19 May 2024.

Cornwall Bonsai Society members are excited to present their loved and treasured bonsai and accent plants. Throughout the weekend there will be various short demonstrations covering many aspects of the art of Bonsai, from where to start, how to care for your tree and how to keep it healthy.

The bonsai display is a free exhibition in the visitors centre during normal garden opening hours. Pop-up 30 minute talks on Saturday at 11am and Sunday at 2pm, covering various aspects of Bonsai.

If you've ever owned a bonsai or wish you had, and have questions on how to select one and how to care for it, then come along and find all the answers, our members would love to share their experiences and knowledge with anybody who has an interest in this beautiful art.

In the bonsai display we will also have a selection of Kokedama (Japanese moss ball plantings).

We will also be running two informal workshops on how to make your own Kokedama on Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 11am.

Many people have the misconception that "bonsai" are a specific breed of Japanese tree. In actual fact, the number of trees species that can be used is limitless.

From our native Hawthorns to Pines, Junipers, Elms, Oaks, Hornbeams, Maples, and then there are the flowering varieties such as Quince, Cherry, Plum and Azalea.

So Bonsai can be enjoyed by one and all, and it doesn't have to cost a fortune. Local garden centres, trees and plants, and from your own garden can be transformed into beautiful bonsai.

If you have ever admired or wish to know more about bonsai then come and join us...it will be treeeemendous!
