January 2024, Jon's Journal

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year! A time for reflection on the year past, but also promise, positivity, and resolutions for the year ahead.

In the garden the early January weather continues to be wet and windy and a bit of a challenge but the camelias are starting to bloom in earnest and the garden team are gearing up for the start of the annual pruning marathon in Hydrangea Valley.

I mentioned this last month but it’s important to highlight that Trebah will be closing in its entirety for five days this coming week from 6th to 11th January so we can undertake essential maintenance work in the Visitor Centre. Apologies in advance for any inconvenience but we look forward to welcoming you back as normal from 9.30am on Friday 12th January.

To help welcome the new year we have arranged a series of Yoga Workshops from 15th January and a Winter Wellbeing Day on 20th January. In 2024 we are also introducing a programme of talks and tours, which kicks off in February with a tour by Charles Fox from Glendurgan, the great, great, great nephew of Charles Fox who first planted the gardens at Trebah. This is followed in March by talks from adventurer Sacha Dench with ‘Adventures of a Human Swan’ and Gary Long, Head Gardener at Trewithen with ‘In The Steps Of The Plant Hunters’. More speakers and dates will follow. You can book online for any of these events using your members discount through our website.

This year we are introducing two new membership categories so that your Trebah Membership might better suit you and your family. Joint membership, for two adults with no children, and Family One Adult membership, for one named adult and up to three children under the age of sixteen. These new categories will be available to you as our existing members and new members at the point of your renewal date from 1 March, Tracy Campbell will be in touch with these new options on your renewal letter in due course.

If you’re coming to visit us in the next few weeks don’t forget that our ‘bring a friend for free’ offer continues until 31st January and if you’re out and about our reciprocal entry arrangements are still valid for the rest of this month, please check the website for details of these.

Thanks as ever for your support at Trebah, here’s to a healthy and healthy 2024 for all.

Best wishes, Jon
