A stomping, new musical premieres in Cornwall this year with a real local flavour and in a unique collaboration between three of the county’s major venues.
The Shearing Gang tells the story of five young people brought together for the summer, working the farms of Cornwall.
They travel together, work together and play together, living for the present, all knowing that at the summer’s end, each will go their own way.
It’s a summer long journey and comes from the pen of master story-teller, Graham Harvey, writer of more than 600 episodes of BBC Radio’s The Archers.
In his long association with the programme Graham created some of the most intriguing plot lines and memorable characters.
The production promises to be high-energy, with a live band and features a dozen new songs from Alistair Collingwood, a composer for over 30 years who has written scores for numerous shows, including Betty in London’s West End, directed by Kathy Burke. He also wrote the music for Cora with Dana Gillespie, which played the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith and toured the USA. His TV credits include the music for French and Saunders (BBC1) and the sitcoms, Mad About Alice (BBC 1) and Rhona (BBC 2) amongst many others.
