Hello everyone,
Spring has sprung. Well, officially within Cornwall at least, even if the continued lack of sunshine and dry days make it feel otherwise. With at least 50 blooms showing on the 6 champion Magnolia Campbellii at six of Cornwall Great Garden, 27 February saw the spring announced by The Great Gardens of Cornwall. Trebah’s tree as many of you will know is a particularly impressive specimen and has been looking stunning, even against the seemingly ever-present grey skies.
The clear up from storm Goretti is almost complete with the reopening of the final path, Petry’s Path, along the western side of the garden last week. The work of the team in this is covered really well by Gemma Boothroyd from the garden team in our Digging Deep February blog post.
Spring also brings the start of horticultural shows around the county. Here I’ll highlight just two. The Falmouth Spring Show takes place on 21 and 22 March in the Princess Pavillions and the Cornwall Garden Society Spring Show is on 28 and 29 March at Wadebridge. We will be entering classes at both shows, so fingers crossed for some winning blooms this year. If you’re able to attend it’s well worth supporting our local horticultural societies and with it the local nurseries and traders who will be there selling us inspiration to add new plants and interest to our gardens as they wake up from winter.
For a little extra colour and creativity, the Cornwall Watercolour Society Exhibition is open daily in the visitor centre until 28th March with some beautiful work on display. If you’re visiting soon, please take a look.
Thanks, as ever, for your support as Trebah members.
Best wishes,
Jon
