Dierama

Dierama

Iris Family
Iridaceae

Dierama are clump-forming cormous perennials with delicate arching stems and bell-shaped flowers.

At Trebah Diereama pulcherrimum, also known as Angel's fishing rod, grows at the end of Lawn Path before the Water Garden. Each summer it exhibits deep purple flowers which hang gracefully from its stem.

It was first brought to the UK by botanist James Backhouse in 1866, a relation of Edmund Backhouse who once owned Trebah.
