Seaweed Pressing Workshop
A unique seaweed pressing workshop hosted by The Seaweed Institute
Join The Seaweed Institute to learn the craft of seaweed pressing – a Victorian practice that captures the underwater beauty of seaweeds.
During the workshop you will learn to recognise and identify local seaweed species. The cultural history of seaweeds will be discussed, as well as its agricultural, scientific and ecological uses. You will learn how to forage, store and use this abundant resource.
After laying out your designs they will be loaded into our seaweed press where they will dry over the next weeks.
You will be able to collect the pieces from our studio at CAST in Helston at a later date or alternatively The Seaweed Institute can post them to you.
Location: Please enter via the Visitor Centre. You will be directed where to go from there. The event is being held in Trebah House.
Refreshment availability: Trebah Kitchen will be open.
Garden entry: The workshop price includes a walk to the forshore to collect and identify local seaweeds for the artwork. Due to the steep topography of the garden, if you have any accessibility requirements, please call 01326 252205 prior to the event. But if you would like to explore the garden before or after you will need to purchase garden entry.
