Hello everyone,
Last month we were honoured and delighted to be presented with a gold award in the Large Visitor Attraction of The Year at the Cornwall Tourism Awards in Truro Cathedral. A huge thank you to all the team here at Trebah – both staff and volunteers – that work hard to keep the garden looking fantastic year round and provide a fantastic welcome and service to everyone who visits. I’m very proud of them for this achievement and for what they deliver ever day. Furthermore we have now been nominated for the national Visit England awards, which are effectively the Oscars of our industry. We are keeping our fingers crossed while we wait to hear if we’ve been shortlisted.
A presentation of a different kind took place a few weeks ago, also in Truro. The Japanese Ambassador was in attendance to present Gingko saplings to representatives from a number of selected gardens and parks across Cornwall. No ordinary gingko saplings however, these are descended from the Hiroshima Ginkgo trees that were some of the only living things to survive the atomic blasts on the city in 1945. A miracle of nature’s resilience and now an important symbol of peace, we are very pleased to be able to welcome one of these saplings into Trebah’s tree collection. We will take some time to chose the right planting location and once planted we will tell it’s full story to visitors.
Back at Trebah, Christmas is in full swing. Decorations are up and once again we’ve had a collaboration with the garden team, utilising many dried flowers and seed heads to provide a sustainable festive look in the Visitor Centre.
Stories with Santa starts this weekend and there are still some slots available to book online for the next two weekends. All children attending will get the chance to write and post their letter to Santa, have a photo opportunity with the man himself and receive a hot chocolate and a sustainable gift too. Our Christmas menu in the café has been well received and thank you to all who have booked. There’s still a few spaces left if you’d like to book for a 2 or 3 course lunch before 21st December. Looking forward our New Year Brunch menu will once again be available, booking strongly recommended and easier than ever using our online link.
Trebah will close on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day to give the team time to spend Christmas with family and friends. We will re-open on 27th December at 9.30am.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas. Thank you for supporting Trebah as Members this year.
Best wishes, Jon
