Hello everyone,

I wanted to get in touch direct this week following storm Goretti.

Many of you live locally to Trebah and a number of us sustained damage at home last Thursday evening and most of the area lost power. Hopefully everyone is safe and well and back online now.

As you may have seen on social media the garden here has sustained some damage, but we are still fortunate when compared to others e.g. St Michael’s Mount.

Luckily because the stronger gusts were in a north-westerly direction the main valley was largely protected, but we have lost a number of trees. Most of the trees lost lie on the western side of the garden and a smaller number on the top of the valley on the eastern side.

We will re-open the garden with a restricted route on Saturday 17 January at 9.30am

We have not been able to clear all of the paths yet, but Darren and the garden team have been working incredibly hard with dedicated staff, volunteers and contractors to clear the debris. A number of you have been kind enough to volunteer your help with the clear-up, so I wanted to say thank you for your offers of help.

More widely, it was heartwarming to see the Cornish community spirit out in force with people supporting those in need and others working tirelessly to get utilities up and running and roads open for emergency access. On that note I wanted to voice a huge thank you to the group of landowners, farmers, groundworkers, contractors, and volunteers who worked together quickly and incredibly hard to get the local roads open on Friday morning. Several of you are Trebah members and will hopefully see this so I wanted to say that we are all very grateful for what you did. Thank you.

As a reminder, the whole site will still be completely CLOSED on Mon 19, Tue 20 & Wed 21 January for our planned essential maintenance.

Thank you for your understanding and support. We hope to see you at Trebah again soon.

Best wishes, Jon
