Botanical Painting in Watercolour

A day’s practical teaching on Botanical drawing and painting by Award Winning Botanical Artist Susan Hillier.

Renowned Botanical Artist – Susan Hillier will give practical tuition and guidance in the art of Botanical Painting and drawing. This skills-based learning opportunity will introduce the amateur painter to the basic principles within traditional botanical painting and equip them with techniques to develop their own botanical art practice. Beginners are also welcome.

Susan’s background in Botanical painting includes Scientific Illustrator for The Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew and is a multiple RHS Botanical painting medal winner. She is a prolific published illustrator for many books including ten gardening books for TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh, and also The Botanical Palette and Exotic Botanical Illustrations with the Eden Project. Susan now lives in Cornwall where she continues to paint and teach independently and with the Cornwall Watercolor Society.

Please bring with you:

  • Hot pressed water colour paper, of reasonable quality.
  • (Tutor will have some to buy at cost).
  • Selection of quality water colours
  • Selection of quality water colour brushes
  • HB pencil
  • Eraser
  • Sharpener
  • Water pot and paper towels

Optional:

  • Dividers,
  • botanical subject of choice(live).
  • Wear clothes for painting / bring aprons.

Beginners welcome. NB If you do not have your own materials there will be some you can borrow.

Optional packed lunch or eat at Trebah café.
