Around the Visitor Centre
The giant Rhododendron arboreum from the southern slopes of the Himalayas are now flowering and can be best viewed from the top of the garden on Lawn Path.
These wonderful tree Rhododendrons have been growing at Trebah for over a hundred years.
Rhododendrons
On Beach Path look out for Rhododendron protistum var. giganteum which can attain a height of 30m in its natural habitat and has enormous leaves and wonderful white flowers with a crimson throat.
Camellias
We have a large collection of Camellias, all in their flowering season, and these can be found along Camellia Walk, Badger’s Walk and also Petry’s Path.
Radiata Path
Along Radiata Path the Hellebores are flowering beautifully this year; they enjoy their position on the woodland edge on a bank where the soil is free draining and you can look up into their delightful flowers.
Magnolias
The Magnolias play a significant role in the glory of the garden in spring and have opened up early this year. Every year we add to our collection and now have many different species and cultivars to look out for.
Along Badger’s Walk you will find a huge specimen of Magnolia x soulangeana in full bloom. On Beach Path Magnolia doltsopa ‘Silver Cloud’ amazes all with its incredibly long flowering period of around 3 months.
Gunnera
The infamous Gunnera manicata, also known as Giant Rhubarb is now growing rapidly and displaying its large upright panicles of flowers.
By late June the prickly stems will have grown up to approx. 3m tall and the leaves up to 2.5m across.
Evergreen Azaleas
At the bottom of the garden the massed planting of evergreen Azaleas on the bank creates a tapestry of colours which can be viewed from Healey’s Hill.
