September 2024, Jon's Journal

Hello everyone,

As I leave home each morning there’s a familiar and refreshing chill in the air, the leaves are turning, a scattering now appearing on the car each morning. Autumn is starting to make its presence felt.

As the mighty gunnera starts to wane and the hydrangeas begin to fade, the views higher up in the garden start to change with hints of colour coming through. The sheltered Court Garden however remains immaculate and a showcase for the horticultural skill of our team of staff and volunteers in a more formal garden environment.

Thanks to everyone who’s signed up to attend our 33rd Annual General Meeting on Saturday 12th October. We’ve had a fantastic take-up of seats so far, with only five left if you wish to attend for both the meeting and talk by Merlin Hanbury-Tenison, so please get in touch as soon as possible if you’d like to join us. Thank you to you all for your ongoing support as Trebah members – a group now heading towards 7000 strong.

When we wrote last month about the launch of the Lodge as Trebah’s first holiday let, I never imagined I would be writing less than a month later to say it is more or less sold out for 2025, but that is the case. Thank you to anyone receiving this who has booked for themselves, family or friends. Equally apologies if you’re one of those on the waiting list. 2026 dates will be released in the next week or so. We’ve hosted several journalists over the last month to help promote the Lodge and Trebah more widely. Sean Newsom penned an article for the Times, published on Saturday 24 August, which online is entitled: “I’ve found Cornwall’s most beautiful place to stay”. You can’t ask for more than that.

The team and I hope to welcome you to Trebah again soon.

Best wishes, Jon Cummins
