October 2024, Jon's Journal

Hello everyone,

As the days draw shorter and become quieter here at Trebah, the views begin to open up more widely as the leaves turn more quickly and fall. At this time of year our minds turn to some of the larger jobs we tend to complete behind the scenes. Despite that there’s still a lot on here at Trebah to see and do over autumn.

We have partnered with Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue, based in Newquay, to provide a themed family trail for half-term that will run daily from 19 October – 4 November. Earlier in the year we ran two Biofluorescence Night Walks, both of which sold out very quickly, so we have managed to secure another date on 31 October for two more walks – starting at 6.30pm and 8.30pm – so book quickly for an alternative Halloween experience to remember. Our series of talks in 2024 continues with Chelsea Gold Medallist, Sid Hill, on 11 October discussing ‘Gardeners As Ecosystem Engineers’ and in a few weeks’ time on 26 October we host Charlie Harpur, Head Gardener on the Knepp Estate, with a talk entitled ‘Rewild Your Garden’. Artist Laura Ribbons, whose exhibition Ancestors is open until 3 November in the Visitor Centre, is running a workshop suitable for all ages called Design your Dream Garden on 1 November. News of our festive plans will come soon.

Trebah Kitchen will launch a refreshed autumn and winter menu in the coming weeks featuring warm, hearty dishes such as beef bourguignon and we will also be introducing a variety of hot toasted sandwiches.

Trebah’s arrangements for reciprocal entry with our local partner gardens and attractions will be live again throughout both November and January. If you’re looking to plan some inspirational and enjoyable days out next month, don’t forget to take a look here for options including the Eden Project, the National Maritime Museum and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. All free to visit with your Trebah membership during November.

Thanks, as ever, for your support as Trebah Garden members.

We look forward to welcoming you again soon.
