Hello everyone,
Here at Trebah summer is in full swing, the hydrangeas are giving a fantastic floral display and we are welcoming many tourist visitors as well as our regular local visitors and no doubt many of you as our members to enjoy the garden, the top-ten summer trail and no doubt an ice cream in the boathouse.
Matt Johnson’s very successful and popular art exhibition recently closed and we’ve now welcomed the ‘Trebah Under the Surface Exhibition’, which has been created by former Trebah team-member and marine biologist, Tara Williams, and her co-collaborator, award winning underwater photographer, Shannon Moran. They have worked to bring to the surface some of the splendour of underwater gardens of the Helford, so those of us who don’t dive and therefore experience the hidden beauty of the flora and fauna beneath the waves first hand, can at least see it through their lens. It’s well worth a look if you’re visiting soon.
I’ve mentioned the lodge house at the main entrance in several of my journals this year and the last of the renovation work on the lodge is being completed just out of shot from the photographers as I type. Next week Trebah will welcome its first overnight guests from the press and Cornish Holiday Cottages, who will be managing bookings and queries for us, will open up the calendar to guest bookings from mid-September via their website in the coming weeks. We will include a link to Trebah Lodge in next months newsletter.
Our Annual General meeting this year is scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday 12 October in our Visitor Centre. For now I just wanted to flag the date for your diaries but you will of course be invited to book a seat in the coming weeks via a separate communication. We have Merlin Hanbury-Tenison joining us as our speaker this year. Merlin and his wife Lizzie set up Cabilla Cornwall, on Bodmin Moor, where their mission is to restore a wild, ancient natural landscape and provide a space where people can improve on their wellbeing by reconnecting with nature. Hearing from Merlin should make for a very interesting afternoon and we will soon send details out soon, so please keep an eye out for subsequent emails.
I hope you’re enjoying the summer sunshine and the warmer weather. We look forward to welcoming you to Trebah again soon.
With best wishes, Jon
