Spring Flower Show Success!

Spring Flower Show Success!

The 108th Falmouth Flower Show was held at the Princess Pavilion on 24-25th March.

This traditional show has marked the start of spring with wonderful displays of trees, shrubs, daffodils and cacti. As one of the local large gardens Trebah has supported this show for some 12 years.

We had not been prepared, however, for the constant withering winds of the Beast from the East freeze-drying the leaves and buds of our Rhododendrons and Magnolias. In addition the snow chilled the soil putting spring on hold so collecting material for the show was a massive challenge.

Finding Camellia blooms was no mean feat; prize winning flowers have to be perfect in shape with no blemishes. Besides the cold, we had incessant rain which soaks between the petals and destroys the colour and beauty of the flowers.

Our efforts certainly paid off and we came away with the Chamber of Commerce Silver Challenge Cup (for the tenth year), the WJ Bull Memorial Cup and the Royal Horticultural Society Banksian Medal for gaining the most points from first prizes in the show.
