• Leycesteria crocothyrosus has showy yellow flowers in spring, and Leycesteria Formosa (Himalayan Honeysuckle) has white flowers with claret coloured bracts in summer. Both are shrubs native of the Himalayas.

• Beschorneroa yuccoides from Mexico is a striking plant with a 2m long arching flowering stem bearing bright green flowers and red bracts.
    Fascicularia
• Bromeliad family (Bromeliaceae)
• Fascicularia pitcairniifolia from Chile is a striking plant. It produces a profusion of long, slender spiny leaves, and in late summer to winter they turn bright crimson around the bluish flowers in the centre of the plant.
  Helleborus
• Buttercup family (Ranunculaceae).
• Helleborus orientalis the Lenten Rose, is an attractive woodland plant from South-Eastern Europe producing welcome winter colour.
  Schizostylis
• Iris family (Iridaceae)
• Kaffir lilies are grown for their striking flowers spikes produced in late summer. They come from damp meadows in Southern Africa.
