Winners of Trebah Photo Competition Announced

Trebah Garden is proud to announce the winners of the 2011/2012 Trebah Garden Photography Competition.

Over 250 entries were submitted and the competition closed on January 6th 2012. Judging took place two weeks later at the house at Trebah.

The judging panel comprised of:

David Chapman Wildlife photographer and writer
Martin Nixon Managing Director of Nixon Design
Melanie Mallett Trebah Gallery Shop Manager
Darren Dickey Trebah's Head Gardener
Claire Vickers Trebah's Marketing & PR Manager

The judges looked at the quality of the photo, the composition, whether it fulfilled the brief of the competition - to depict an aspect of Trebah and were all photos were judged anonmously. After several hours of delibration, the winning 12 pictures were selected, each photo gaining inclusion into the Trebah 2013 official calender.

Adrian Poole's 'Morning Light' won overall first prize and all the judges were unanimous in their decision.

David Chapman said: "Morning Light is immediately striking because of the magical quality of light captured by the photographer. The slightly misty air and backlit ferns and trees give this image a wonderful atmospheric. The composition of the main elements within the photograph has been very carefully considered with ferns radiating into the scene from one corner and a substantial tree trunk set to the opposite side; between the two is a lovely path, dappled with light and shade, inviting the viewer to step into the picture".

The photographs will now be sent to Trebah's printers to create the 2013 official calendar, which will go on sale at £6.95 from this Easter at Trebah.

The judges and everyone at Trebah would like to thank everyone that participated in the competition.

Claire Vickers, Marketing & PR Manager said: "This is the first time we have run this type of photographic competition and we have been overwhelmed by the standard and quality of the entries. There have been submissions as far and wide as Scotland, East Anglia and even The Netherlands. There has also been alot of entries from Cornwall, revealing the enormous amount of home-grown talent we have on our doorstep. We would like to thank everyone who has been involved in this fascinating project and I am sure the 2013 calendar will prove to be a great success".
