L-R: Darren Dickey (Head Gardener), Claire Vickers (Marketing & PR Manager) & Nigel Burnett (Director) with their GOLD award for Large Visitor Attraction of the Year.
Last night, Trebah Garden was awarded GOLD for Large Visitor Attraction of the Year at the Cornwall Tourism Awards. Fighting off stiff competition from Cotehele and the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Trebah picked up this award in front of a host of industry peers, at what is locally known as Oscar Night for the tourism industry.
Nigel Burnett, Director of Trebah Garden said of picking up GOLD:
"We are absolutely thrilled and delighted to receive Gold. It is a hard fought contest and we are up against some very big players in the tourism industry. The team at Trebah really deserve this award, it recognises all the hard work and effort we continue to put in, making Trebah a fabulous place to visit. Trebah was one of the first places in Cornwall to advocate all year round opening, proving critics that Cornwall isn't just a spring or summer destination. We've won awards in the past for our catering and the garden, but this award is very special, as it acknowledges everybody who plays a part in making Trebah a fantastic place to work, visit and inspire".
A formal application was made back in May of this year, including details of Trebah's financial performance, visitor numbers, marketing strategy, plans and actions, as well as general information about the visitor experience. Trebah was then shortlisted with amongst ten other large attractions for a mystery shop, this will have taken place in August, a very busy month for most tourism attractions and a real test for Trebah to exceed visitor expectations. Trebah was then notified in October, that it had been nominated as one of the final three to win this award.
Candida Beeching from the Cornwall Association of Tourism Attractions said:

Organisers of the evening, VisitCornwall, showered praise on Trebah's award-winning entry. Penny Woodman, Marketing Manager for VisitCornwall said:
"Trebah Garden remains a firm favourite amongst visitors to Cornwall. These amazing sub-tropical gardens are in a magnificent location, which has been planted with spectacular plant species from all over the world, so even the most reluctant of gardeners will fall in love with this place. It is also quite unique in the way it appeals to families with young children and the way it even welcomes canine visitors. And to top it all, it has one of the best cafes in Cornwall!"
