"This is my first time here, but it won't be my last" Sara, Plymouth
Our Head Gardener, Darren Dickey has seen a Greater Spotted Woodpecker and his nest, based inside our sculpture by Reese Ingram in Tarzan's Camp at Trebah. This striking bird has a glossy black plummage with white on the sides of the face and neck and the male has a distinctive red patch on the back of the head.
It has a very distinctive bouncing flight and spends most of its time clinging to tree trunks and branches, often trying to hide away from any observer. (Source: RSPB)
The sculpture by Reese Ingram was created at Trebah in 2002, as part of a sculpture project that was part funded by the South West Arts Regional Lottery Programme. The sculpture is of the flower 'Herb Robert' and was created out of a single Western Red Cedar.
